THIS IS A VINTAGE JUSTRITE COAL MINERS CARBIDE HEAD LAMP . PAT. #115123
It measures approximately 4". tall and 2" in diameter across at bottom. These portable carbide lamps, worn on the hat or carried by hand, were widely used in mining in the early twentieth century. They were also used to illuminate buildings, as lighthouse beacons, and as headlights on motor-cars and bicycles. This lantern is sold "as is" and unless restored is for display only. It would need to be cleaned to be fully operational. It is in very good antique condition with patina on the brass. We will leave the cleaning and restoration to the new owner's discretion. Enjoy an interesting piece of history and a great collectible!
